CROPLAND FOR RENT 2010 season in Stanley: different sized parcels,
bid details & locations
available at City Hall, 3rd Street near Broadway, Stanley. Contact Diane or

(Announcements appearing in The Republican Feb. 10 and The Shopper Feb. 15.)
Stanley has a Mayoral/Council form of government that meets the first and
third Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. Four Wards each have two
representatives on the city council. The council through a group
of committees listed below guides
with our Public Works Foreman the upkeep and projects in the city parks,
water treatment and sewage plants, streets and infrastructure areas. Two water treatment plants supply the city. Daily water demands by
businesses, industry and residential customers are nearly one million
gallons per day. A modern wastewater treatment plant is located on the
southeast corner of the city, along Highway 29.
The City Clerk-Treasurers Office is
located in a historic
City Hall Building located at 116 E. Third Avenue,
715-644-5758, email
clerk@stanleywisconsin.us. The Police Department is also located at City Hall
and can be reached at 715-644-5975. It offers around the clock
protection services. A Volunteer Fire Department is housed in
a modern building at 239 E. First Avenue. The city's ISO fire rating for
insurance purposes is 5, which allows businesses and industries reduced
rates on their property insurance. Members are First Responder Trained
also.
The D.R. Moon Library at 154 E. Fourth Avenue has much more than books to
check out...DVDs, magazines, music CDs, books on CDs and many newly
published books. The children's department features a wide variety of
materials for the very young, as well as interesting items for young adults.
Stanley's library is part of the MORE library system which has more than 1.5
million items that be sent to Stanley. There is no charge for this
service and the library card is free too.
Items can also be ordered on the internet at
www.more.lib.wi.us and will be sent
for pick-up at the library of your choice.
Stanley's library web site is
www.stanleylibrary.org . The library has nine new computers
installed in 2009.
The Library now makes house calls. What may be borrowed? Books
(fiction and nonfiction), large print materials, magazines, audio-visual
items (videos, DVDs, audio books, music CDs) can be delivered at a
prearranged time and when you are finished with the materials, the volunteer
will pick them up. This service is available all year long.
The library was gifted to the city
in 1901 by Mrs. Sally F. Moon. She had the library built as a memorial to
her late husband, Delos R. Moon, a lumber magnate with Stanley's largest
industry, the Northwestern Lumber Company.
The library building is on the State and National Registers of Historic
Places.
For more information or to volunteer, contact Susan Anderson at the
Stanley Public Library, 715-644-2004.
